Ever since i can remember i have always increased the size of my paging file to improve system performance.
A paging file is and area on the hard disk that windows uses as if it were RAM (memory).
By default windows has the size set on auto but never gives enough to meet the recommended needs.
I always double or even triple the size of the paging file to avoid the risk of a
SLOW PC
(i know its not nice)
Since most people now days are on windows 7 ill explain how to do it on there.
First of all, click the START button (the little windows symbol in the bottom left of your screen) then...
On the START popup menu click CONTROL PANEL on the right hand side to open a new window.
Once on CONTROL PANEL you should find a icon called SYSTEM click on it.
Yet another window will open and on the left hand side you will see ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS click that for another window...
Now in this window you will find a few tabs at the top, click on the one named ADVANCED.
Once on the ADVANCED tab you will see 3 different SETTINGS buttons, click the one next to PERFORMANCE.
Yet again ANOTHER window opens but happy to say were nearly done.
On this window you want to press the ADVANCED tab just like the other window.
On this page you will have 2 options 1: Processor Scheduling 2: Virtual Memory, click the CHANGE button next to Virtual Memory.
This is where you can change your paging file size, you will notice a few little circle buttons you can click on.
Click the button next to CUSTOM SIZE
Change the Initial Size (MB): and the Maximum Size (MB): to something your happy with.
Remember, this will take space away from your hard disk, so if you like to download and worry about your space, don't do too much!
Also you will notice at the bottom on the window it will show you RECOMMENDED: XX MB to give you a idea how how big you need.
Hope this helps, i tried to make it as simple as i could
Gimme a shout on here if you need anymore help.
