I know this is a really late post however a lot of people like myself don't like to pay full price for a game they have little info about, don't get me wrong i have heard of fifa manager i just never bothered with it since 99.99% of of people who wanted a manager game would turn to football manager and there is no doubt in why they do so.
Fifa manager has a LOT of potential but i suppose you can't really change the name to "Fifa career mode with rubbish graphics and even worse gameplay". I know it sounds harsh but anyone who has played a season or 2 on football manager before playing fifa manager would agree. There is a lot of things with fifa manager that football manager is missing because lets face it, football manager is a massive database with a half decent interface. BUT and its a big but lets face it, aside from pretty pictures and the old LMA idea of building your own stadium, football manager has it all, every professional player on record, detailed player profiles and cmon lets face it real life professional football managers actually play football manager so i guess it can't be that bad.
Back to what i was saying, Fifa manager has great potential for the cyber Brian Clough (don't argue hes #1) but its so simple and mind numbing its beyond a joke.
For anyone planning on playing Fifa manager there's a few things you should know:
DON'T skip media questions (if there is no good answer just take the safe option so you don't reduce morale of your team)
ANY player has the potential to be a quality player as long as you stick to a few simple rules (young, good character and fits your formation) what i mean by this is, good character would be someone who is level headed, a gentleman and versatile but avoid someone with negative attitudes such as selfish and journeyman.
Someone who fits your formation is someone who suits your preferred formation i.e 4-1-2-1-2, you will want someone who suits a AM position rather than a CF since a 4-1-2-1-2 formation (unless edited) uses a AM, the main difference between the two positions is a CF will go for goal where as a AM would be more suited to supply your ST with attempts on goal and trust me that's what you want.
Like i said, any player can become a quality player if played right, if you supply your ST with goals he will become a assassin and smash goals in for fun but if your CF is getting the goals and your ST is just watching hes pretty much pointless apart from the odd assist and reducing in value.
Once you have found a formation you are happy with and it suits your team its time to use your football knowledge and common sense. Pretty such the only thing you will need to change is the defensive line & closing down, you will be able to pick up on what is needed easy enough, if a team is running through and running riot making your keeper cry then turn up your closing down and make your team fight for the ball, if you have a quick, decent defense who will boss most attacks against them then push the defensive line up and bully the attack before they even see your goal.
This is a WIP (work in progress) but here is a idea of a few teams you will come against in your first season and how to go against them. (based on 4-1-2-1-2 formation)
Stoke - High Def & Closing down
Everton - High Def $ Closing down
Sunderland - High Def & closing down
Southampton - Very high def & Very high closing down
Liverpool - High def & closing down
Man City - default def & closing down (around 25-35% on both)
Lyon - Low def & closing down
Man Utd - Very high def& closing down
Barcelona - High/very high def & closing down (its tricky but if messi is hammering you turn up the def + closing)
R madrid - High def & Closing down
From the look of this if you went for quick, skilled defenders you could pretty much keep your defensive line and closing down high and stroll through a season with a high success rate.
As for ST its good to have a nice mix of the must have stats (finishing, shot power, sprint speed, acceleration, jumping and heading accuracy) but its hard to find the ideal player unless you have the spare cash for Lukaku or Wickham, however you can get by with a lot worse, i mean, i have used Billy Sharp for the past season and a half on a new save with Nottingham Forest and hes proper smashing everything in front of me with a top goalscorer for the first season and heading for the award again in the prem with sick finishing. (granted i had to use most of my transfer budget to keep him after loan but well worth it).
If you really have no idea on a decent player to buy and have money to burn then consider:
Nick Powell - CM
Marco Verratti -
Pape Abdou Camara - DM
Wilfred Zaha - RW
Nathan Redmond - RW
Davide Santon- LB
mario Gotze - AM
Jack Wilshere - AM (injury prone so beware)
David De Gea - GK
David Alaba - LB
Phil Jones - DC
Erik Lamela - RW/LW/AM
Timo Horn - GK
Bruma - LW
Kurt Zouma - DC
Mattia Destro - ST
Romeu Lukaku - ST
Connor Wickham - ST
Bojan Krkic - RW/LW
Ross barkley CM/AM (massive on my save as AM, 40m+ value after 1st season but greedy on wages)
Lee hodson - RB
Nathaniel Clyne - RB
Grant Hanley - DC
Jack Butland - GK
There's 100's more who have bright futures with little effort but its all up to you to decide who you want in your team, these are just guidelines.
As always have fun and if you have any comments please post them!
